Questions for anyone in the know:

- Would you get marked down for riding in a snaffle? Otherwise I am going to have to take the hooks off a pelham and be very careful jumping as he normally goes in a nathe straight bar snaffle

- Are the jumps up to height; this is max. height of 3ft 3", so not huge but wondering whether they build them up to height like BSJA

If you're doing working hunter, a snaffle shouldn't be a problem. The big WH classes I've seen are mostly up to height (and look it with the fillers etc), but it usually depends a bit on entries and the ground conditions - I haven't been to the Festival of the Hunter though.

Good luck.

Yes sorry should have said this is working hunter.

I have to be very careful that I don't interfere with his mouth jumping (I have a terrible 'fiddling' habit 2/3 stride off which I am trying to beat), so would have to be extremely careful with a pelham.

There are no rules on equipment that I can find for Riding Clubs, however most working hunters seem to be a in a pelham with grackle / flash!

It's much better that he's happy in his mouth and does a good round than you get faults or poor style through over bitting. Going to something milder is much better than going to something stronger (you are meant to be able to hunt the horse without galloping off into the distance afterall!)

Does not matter about tack in the WH. A lot of people wear double bridles but the jumping is worth 60% of marks so much better off having a lovely round than trying to just look nice.
