Hi, Has anyone had any experience of fetlock joint capsule tears? If so how long was the recovery? My horse has currently had 6 weeks box rest and still isnt sound. Swelling has more or less gone

My mare had the same injury plus suspensory damage and cartilage damage. She was operated on......this was last May. I'm afraid I can't remember exactly how long recovery took, but I was riding her by about Sept/October time. This was just hacking and initially just in walk and then slowly introducing trot. It did feel like quite a long and painstaking time, but I have to say you can't rush it and it has been worth it as she is now sound, even though we really didn't know if she would ever be ridden again. Unfortunately her jumping days are over, but she's starting to accept that dressage might be an option :0)

Hi, thanks for reply. I'm 7 weeks in and started hand walking. Feel so sorry for the mare being stuck in the stable for so long. I've been very very lucky and never had one on box rest for more than a week. Vet has said the same as you dont rush it will take time. Vet was confident that she would be able to resume normal work. Out of interest how did yours do it? Mine was some freak injury in the stable
