took my horse out the feild today, and she was very lame. she did not want to put any weight on her heal. is walking on the toe of that foot, and the fetlock is swollen, no heat. anyone got thoughts of what it may be?
also should mention, this happend to a horse in the same feild, the owner has had vet out several times to no conclusion. thanks

Hi

Does the field have blackthorn hedges? Had a similar thing with my TB, lame behind, more comfortable bearing weight on toe than heel, bit of heat and swelling moving up leg. Couldn't see anything in sole but got farrier out and he took show off and dug around a bit and found bloody great blackthorn embedded between frog and hoof wall at heel!

Given that another horse in field has had the same problem, if you do have blackthorn hedges it may be worth getting farrier to have a look. Blackthorn is I think toxic to horses and can cause quite nasty infection

Hope it helps
