typical of this weather, i have contacted my vets and they have told me to get some stable chaps.? any one else got these and have they found that they have benifited your horse ?
xx thanks guys

Id always thought You arnt supposed to use the chaps until the mudfever has cleared up as having the wet warm environment just allows the bacteria to breed and the mudfever to get worse. Id clear it up first then use the chaps maybe as a preventative measure. This is just what ive always been told so do tell me if im wrong!

My last horse suffered with mud fever - he had turnout socks on during day (only when he didn't have mud fever) then Thermatex leg wraps on at night to dry out any moisture. This combination worked fantastically for preventing mud fever.
Like one of the replies said, i understood that chaps/wraps should be used once its gone but I guess the leg wraps only dry the leg and keep it warm and are breathable so maybe would be ok??
New horse not as prone so has the Keratex powder which fingers crossed, touch wood and whistle - appears pretty good!

We use camrosa cream as well and/or a type of barrier cream (not complelety sure as mum does it - its her pony!!) before the pony goes out in the field and it is sooo much better than has been in the past and leave her in the stable a bit more.

I wash my horses legs when she comes in then she wears leg wraps overnight to dry them. Before she goes out in the morning I put udder cream on her legs - it works really well as a barrier and it helps to clear up the mud fever too

My horse had awful mudfever and each cream I tried seemed to work for a few days but before it really cleared up it broke out again.Plus creams are messy with mud. I have now gone onto kerratex powder and turnout boots .I was really worried as the labels said to clear it up first but it has worked and at last he is better.
The down side is I have to wash and dry the boots each night .
athe up side is he has clean legs.
I was not able to stable 24/7 which is the best way to get rid of it.
I think thermatex wraps in the stable would be great for at night but I haven't needed them

Im gonna be the only one saying this then

Leg wraps made my boys mud fever worse.

He usually always has them on but since christmas, hes not having them.

I brush off dry sand and then put cream on. Dont wash at all, but the stable chaps definitly made it worse
