Arrrgghh! What is it with some people? My horse has been living out since June because he has arthritis, and being out helps. Anyway, since autumn and winter came along, everything in the field started to die off. and Mac decided he could scramble through all the bushes and get out of the field. He has been a complete and utter pain for the last month, I will hold my hands up to this. But, in his defence, upon very close examination of the field by myself, my OH, and the other grass liveries, we have discovered that there are no actual fences to keep them in along one side of the field. I spoke to YO about new fencing, and got told she can't afford it. I threatened to leave as I need him out as much as possible, and she offered me a peice of wasteland in the yard that I could clear, erect electric fencing, and turn him out all day. I am happy with this and the area is cleared and I am waiting for my fencing to be delivered. Will be delivered Thurs/Fri. Since he came in about 10 days ago though, I haven't been able to turn him out at all and it is starting to show on him now. The other liveries are on winter turnout now (About 2 hours a day) and I have asked if he can be turned out with another horse, but keep getting told no, he's not allowed because he will break the fencing! No matter how many times I say he won't, they all seem to know my horse so much better than me and even when I ask them to show me the fences he has allegedly broken and they can't, they are still insistant that he is a fence wrecker. I am sooo cross at the moment and just want to scream.

Roll on the weekend when I can build my paddock!

Have left a message on YO's answerphone this morning asking if I can get him out for at least an hour a day until paddock is done. Have promised I will repair any fencing should he break any, (It is all electric fencing though and he does respect it), so will wait and see.

Sorry for the rant, just needed to get it off my chest.

Can't you put him back in his original field with an electric fence and a decent amount of haylage???

As for the others on the yard - it's not up to them if you turn your horse out - but the YO. If the YO has told you you can turn your horse out with the others - then that's the end of the story.

Some yards are sooooooo badly run, it's beyond belief.

Poor you.

That was what I wanted to do, but YO was concerned that he might still try to escape and hurt himself. (You can't really see them in the field from the yard) I am happy to meet her half way as I think she is being fair by allowing me to have my own paddock for him. I think it is one or two liveries saying that YO has said he can't go out, and TBH, I don't believe them which is why I have called her. If she says no, then so be it.

Although I can see your point of view I can also see your YO's!
Once a horse learns how to escape there is always the potential for it to do so in the future and lead the others off with it next time.
you say there are no fences at all on that side, well in that case why don't all the others push their way out too?
With litigation as it is today your Yo really can't afford to have a horse that is known to break out in any field that isn't totally secure. She has done her best to help you, and it seems you are the only one with your own paddock all be it small.
I've never met your horse and I am agreeing with those others who say he will likely break out again!!
This is based on kepping horses including lots of livery ones for many years, and knowing how they behave.. ride him more, lunge if that's possible or take him for walks in hand, your fence will be here very soon.
If you had your horse in a field with another known escapee, could you honestly say you wouldn't worry yours would go with that one and possibly injure itself or get onto the road?
I don't think your rant is justified in this case I'm afraid.
I also think your YO needs to use some of the rent for fencing...yours may not be the only one who pushes through fences once the grass disappears..
