"Fibre Care" with Biotin vs "Safe & Sound"

Another feed question:

My feed merchant has suggested I use a product called Fibre Care instead of D&H Safe + Sound. Apparently the Fibre Care is better and includes Biotin (which I use as a supplement presently)

Does anyone know about this product please and thanks?

Safe and Sound also contains Biotin! I would ask your feed merchant to explain exactly WHY he thinks Fibre Care is better for your particular horse (and not just for his profit margins)?

Are you feeding this to a laminitic or a potential laminitic? If so, I would ask both manufacturers for both the starch AND the sugar content of the products - to be suitable for laminitics the total starch and sugar content should be less than about 10%. So if a feed has, say, 9% starch and 8% sugar it is too high.

If the biotin content is particularly important to you, I would also ask each manufacturer how much biotin is in the feed - one may be higher than the other.

I feed Healthy hooves, and the farrier told me today that the boy's feet are "excellent", which they weren't eight months ago This has biotin in it too. Just check the amount in the amount of feed you are giving is the recommended max dose. sm x

Thanks both. My boys feet are the best theyve been in 3 years so I am happy with what I am on but just wondered because of the feed merchants opinion - nb: it is cheaper than S&S not more expensive so I HOPE it is not for profit margins?

If your boy's feet are tip -top, then I wouldn't change a thing. It's so hard to get them right, and so easy to get them not right. I know I could probably use a cheaper feed than £11.50 a throw, and add biotin, but it's the combination in the stuff that seems to be working so well for him. And I don't have to shoe him, lol.
