Kitty cat went to the vet today with a lump that has been there for a while, suddenly got larger this morning. Vet draine and biopsied it, and says he thinks it is a fibrous sarcoma, will have to wait 5 days for the biopsy to come back but has anyone ever experienced this?
He's 11/12 yrs old and has already had a plated pelvis and sliced down that side (10yrs ago). Other than that he is well in himself.

it's fibrosarcoma - google it for more info. sarcomas are generally more of a nasty kind of tumour and require removal, but best to wait for biopsy results before panicing.

Had a google. Hadn't actually realised it was cancer. I think the vet is positive but it scares me when he starts talking about 'good chances' as that pretty much means its serious. Thanks for the spelling, can I ask have you seen many of these in cats?

oops - did your vet just baffle you with a long word and not tell you what it meant? lumps tend to be abscesses, granulomas or tumours in the main and then tumours can be either benign or maligant and sarcomas are normally malignant. cant say i've actually seen one in a cat, but i have seen plenty of growths and normally they're best removed as cats tend to grow malignant tumours, whereas dogs are very good at growing harmless benign ones. try not to panic until you know for sure what it is though.

Well, actully I'm not at home, mum took him to the vet( he is most definitely my cat but obviously being at uni) and I am getting relayed info, basically he said fibrosarcoma (mum is doctor so evidently understands and neglected to explain!), removable and will grow back, that is the gist of what I got tonight. I now have a lovely picture too of the lump and stitches.
I don't like sarcoma's, I think I am hoping at the moment that mr miracle cat (he really does have nine lives) will just get better and continue on for a good long while yet.
Thank you for the input
