Just had the forklift and bucket in the field clearing up my 2 big over winter hay spots. It's left 2 smelly bare patches in field. If I chuck grass seed on will it grow or do I need top soil?

You might find that patch of soil is fairly high nitrogen from the hay breaking down at the bottom, so it *might* scorch young seedlings - it all depends how wet the bottom hay got and if you removed soggy bottom before new hay, or piled new hay on top. A kilo of meadow seed is cheap enough to give it a try. It would be worth soaking the soil with a hose to just dilute/rinse manky residue from the patch, then rake in some seed.

It got fairly wet as I just kept adding to pile. I will give it a try, thank you.
