Just wondered how often you groom your horses for those of you that keep them out 24/7 and are not ridden? And how often you hoof pick especially with all the mud that has been around over winter ?

Thanks I didn't groom mine much over winter either due to needing oils in his coat for warmth etc. except when he was rugged. I really should have said now that spring is here. Mine is moulting like a speed of knots (no pun intended lol ). I have realised I didn't have a pony this winter but a woolly mammoth

I hoof pick daily and groom with a rubber curry comb for field kept horses that are not rugged, whether working or not. I do prefer to part stable the working ones so the grease can be brushed out, it keeps the tack cleaner then. I really dislike rugging horses in summer.

I don't groom mine once in blue moon but they live in part time. pick out feet rarely on mine most of the mud comes out when they walk from the field to the stable.

I do a sort of field groom so a quick whisk over with plastic or rubber curry comb most days, only body brushing once a week. It gives me a good chance to make sure I check them all over thoroughly and don't miss any little injuries or fly/midge bites (P has sweet itch). Feet get picked out at least twice a week and purple sprayed or hoof oiled underneath at weekends. When it is wet or muddy, I do hoof oil during the week, wash with Epsom salts, dry off and then purple spray at weekends. Which seems to work pretty well, the hoof oil acts as a barrier and the Epsom salts and purple spray dry up any nasties before they get a chance to do much damage.
