At my yard we get the fields poo picked by a man and machine (who is lovely) which cost £10 per month per horse on top of livery.
The fields now need harrowing, which would cost the same but only for this one month, is it fair to ask the liveries to pay for this or should it be expected as part of the livery costs?
 
I would most definately expect both of these costs to be part of my livery.

You YO is being very crafty in requiring this 'add on'.
 
Hmm, depends what type of yard it is I suppose. ALthough I am on a DIY yard, and our rates are going up this year by the equivalent of £10 a month to cover the poo picking machine they have bought (amazing thing, I went up past the field my lot were in over the winter which was FILTYY, 3 horses, 24/7 virtually for 5 months - it is clean as a whistle now they have been round it with the machine.)
Anyway, back to the topic, I must admit I would be a bit annoyed if they charged extra for what I would see as routine field maintenance.

ETS agree with AmyMay tbh, which is why our YO has just put the rates up overall to reflect the purchase and use of the machine which was flippin' pricy (top of the range one!)

If full livery then poo picking and any field maintenance should be part of the cost. If DIY then I would agree to pay £10 for someone to pick up poo but think harrowing is YO responsibility. Why do they want to harrow the fields? To get rid of old thatch?
 
I agree you can't charge the liveries. On a diy liveries maybe responsible for their own poo picking or you can charge extra if they don't. Field maintenance (harrowing, fertilising, topping etc) is down to YO I think.
 
depends wot it says in your contract.
All cost have risen shockingly over the last few years so you cant blame yo's for trying to claw back some of the costs absorbed.
Do they have to get contractors in to do everything?
Has nobody on the yard got a 4x4 u could harrow with?
