So ive jst got a new field that is competely wrecked at the gate. Mud is like ankle deep. Am i able to put mud matts on top of this or should i wait till field dries out a bit then deal with it. Also when is the best time to re seed and how long do horses need to stay off it for.

I think once they are down you you want to try and avoid relaying if possible.

If it’s very oozy mud they can go straight down and will pretty much self level.

If it’s mud that getting to that slightly drying stage you either be best waiting until it’s rollable, then laying or as ^^^ evening off the area with *something* - bedding/sand etc

Mudcontrol slabs will sit on top of the mud. I've laid them in almost calf-deep slop to create a dry area as well as in a welly-sucking gateway. Plus they hold their value, so they stay an easily removeable asset.

As others have said, mud control mats on top of the mud works. I would also recommend joining 'Land Management for horse with Dr Lisa Schofield UK' on FB if you have FB. A wealth of very useful information from knowledgeable people with tried and tested methods, including the science behind it
