My horse lives in a field with two other horses. The owners have just told me that they are moving livery yard in a weeks time so my horse will be alone in his field. He can see other horses in 2 adjacent fields next to his but I am worried about the change as he whinnies and races about the field when he has been left in there on his own whilst the other two are out hacking.
I have only owned him for a few months and he is my first horse so I am not sure what it is best to do - whether to leave him on his own and hope he settles? or see if he can be moved into another field? or someone move into his field? Any advice/past experiences would be much appreciated. He is a 6 year old TB gelding.

I dont think many horses are happy living alone, yours certainly sounds as if he will be very unhappy and will get stressed unless he has company so I would be looking to either move him to a field with others or get another horse to move in with him.
If you are on a livery yard you need to discuss this with the YO and see what they want to do about it, most YOs are happy to move horses around so that they are settled.

are you in your own field or on a yard? Speak to yard owner if you have one and if not, perhaps look for someone to share with?

The people I share the yard with moved off giving a few days notice earlier this year which left my TB on his own (unfortunately my mare was away at stud at the time so he was all alone) for a few days until my new sharers arrived. The first day he just roamed about looking for everyone then after that head down and happy as larry (he usually stresses when my mares comes in without him) so your lad may act differently to what you think he will.

Try not to leave him on his own for too long though - they need company. Even if you bought a sheep or similar  he x
