My field gets very wet (clay based) and i wanted to try some rubber matting for a hard standing area for the horses whilst they pick at there hay (hay will be large round bale dropped in the field so the horses can pick at it) there are 3 horses, a TB, native type 15hh and a yearling native type. All are shoe-less, ground is okay at the moment as its been so dry, but i know its going to be wet and horrid and i hate the thought of them standing in fetlock deep mud!!

Am thinking a few mats for them to stand on around the hay?

Anything that goes down will have to be temporary, i thought about wood-chippings but guessed that these would soon disappear!??

Any tips? thanks

To be honest if you are on clay soil nothing will work. The field mats just get sucked under. I am speaking from experience, I moved mine in the end, couldnt stand the knee deep mud :(
