Any recommendations for field shelter manufacturers? There are so many when I google, I can’t tell the cowboys from the genuine.
Ideally south/ south west to reduce delivery cost. Self assembly preferred. I know timber costs have gone sky high in recent years, but not looking for silly expensive, just a plain basic standard fully open front shelter. Thanks.

Fallen Oak Timber buildings seem to have a favourable reputation and good comments when I see people asking for recommendations. I like the look of their shelters and they offer different options to upgrade to a more expensive spec. They would be a company I would use in the future and keen to hear if anyone else has used them on here?

Thank you for the suggestions. Slowly trawling through these and other manufacturers. I have found a very simple steel shelter that I’m strongly considering. Not having wood for the horses to chew and not having to deal with rotting wood is quite appealing.

Also I'd be wary of a metal roof , they can be very noisy. We have a metal shelter for the cows. They are very , well, 'bovine' about things (!) so it doesn't bother them but the noise inside when there's heavy rain is unbelievable, you have to shout to be heard. It would upset a horse I'd imagine .

Do check that there aren’t any sharp edges left on an all metal shelter, and that it is strong enough to deal with kicks and rubs without warping and exposing unprotected ends of metal sheeting.

Field shelters take some abuse, more so than a stable.
Yes, It’ll be lined with osb kick board, and the edges enclosed.

Our stables in our previous property had metal sheet roofing and never had problems with the horses. Yes it can be very loud, but they didn't bat an eyelid.

Apparently there’s a lot of countries that use metal stables/ shelters due to wood being inappropriate for the climates.

Mine are https://www.facebook.com/shetlands2shiresbuildings/?locale=en_GB. Well made and solid, well chuffed with them

I don’t know where you are in the country but Williams of Pentney ones are fantastic. They do a rental scheme so you can just pay monthly and then buy it outright if you want or buy it first off.
We had one put up by them and we lived on a very windy hill and it survived all the highest winds of the last few years without any damage what so ever. I’m talking 60mph.
Definitely recommend
