Field shelter

I put shavings down in one of mine, they eat straw.

I do find that if a shelter is just soil they don't dung in there, put a bed down and they do, the foal shelter is bedded (and picked daily) the others aren't. Usually dung is welded to the ground anyway in winter, impossible to remove.

up to you - if you don't want straw being blown around then don't, horses will happily lie down on the ground as don't forget this is natural for them!

I leave mine bare as Enfys say, any kind of bedding tempts them to wee and poo in there usually on any hay they have pulled out of haybar as well wasting there. Plus it all gets dragged out into the field as well and I just think it looks messy. I have increasingly been keeping them in the field shelter for up to 6 hrs when we have had torrential rain and still havent put bedding down.
