My auntie is in the process of purchasing a house with land, but it has no stables. She has 2 horses, a ¾ Arab and a Section A companion and needs somewhere for them to go when the weather’s bad. There is natural shelter in the form of trees but it can get quite wild here in Wales during the winter so she’s wondering about a field shelter instead of permanent stabling. I vaguely remember somebody on here mentioning that they can be classed as temporary therefore you don’t always need permission. Ideally, she needs to be able to divide them when needed, as the Arab can be aggressive to the little one meal times (though being a little Welsh A she does provoke him by squealing and nudging him, lol!)

So, does anybody know the regulations or have links to somewhere we can have a look at regarding field shelters? Do you need planning permission for them? Any recommendations for companies? Any other ideas?

Grateful as always for any help & suggestions

I think it very much depends on the area you are in. If you ring the local planning office they will tell you if you do or not. To be classed as temporary our stables had to be on skids which made them more expensive but got round the need for planning straight away. I would imagine it would be the same with the field shelter. Best thing is to definately call in and see what they say. From experience if someone later complains its much more difficult to sort out than if you make them aware of it initially and try to get them to email you the response so you have proof and a record should there be an arguement later...
