Field Shelters - recommendations ?

No recommendations as such, but I would make sure that you are siting the shelter in a non-exposed area and it is well secured. I know of one where someone left it in a very exposed place. It had skids on so that you could move it with a Land Rover. The wind go under it (it was only open part of one side) and it blew across the field and turned over! They were extremely luck not to have some seriously injured horses!

oh my god i will chain it to the floor i think - we arnt planning on moving it !! also will put it in the side paddock where it is inclosed !!

Thanks xx

I am doing the same thing at the moment....

Always secure them/stake them to the ground - v sensible precaution.

I have looked into countless different companies supplying shelters - couple of observations:

make sure it is tanelised wood - otherwise it will rot or you will be forever painting it and it will still rot!

Think about guttering - worth having front and back IMO

Overhang? preferable IMO, esp if using as a mobile stable....

kick boards - how high/what etc

I am going to put mats down in mine so won't get wet from the floor up - extra expense, but worth doing?

Think about quality of fixtures/fittings etc - the cheapest is not always the best!!!!

Skids - metal are best, but if you are not planning on mving it and you don't care - wooden ones would do

Lastly - lead times....lots of them are saying no delivery till the new year, so ask that question first if you want it now!!

Good luck! PM me if need more info!

Agree with everything that has been said especially CatherineP comments.

I used Redmire and love it and it still looks like new 18 months on (they are local to me in West Sussex as well, but will deliver and install countrywide).

Mine faces North and unless its very bad it stays dry, warm and cosy inside.

I have not put down mats as I tried one under his haynet but it seems to draw the moisture from the drips across the base. I have used shavings and it works for me a treat! Good Luck!
