sorry i posted aout this a few weeks ago & cat rememer the aswers ( sorry for spelligs S**t keyoard!!!! ) What directio should a field shelter face to get the est shelter from the su , wid & rai ............. oh *ollocks!!!! ( if you uderstad this the excellet!!!! guess the letters that dot work o my keyoard!!!! )
what im tryig to say is the est directio to shelter them from the elemets...

When I put mine up I situated it on level ground that was fairly sheltered, i.e. not on the top of a hill. But I don't think you can predict any further than that as the weather comes from all directions! Mine has been fine even through several winters now with lashing wind and rain.

A field shelter should ideally face the against the prevailing winds. Which direction does the wind blow mostly where you are? Face the back of the shelter into that direction. Often you need to face it East, but depends on where you live.
