Has anyone ever used a Slitter or aerator like the ones below to improve clay fields which have been rolled to death over the years and are badly compacted or is a "spiky" roller a better job? Thanks for any input or suggestions!

I did consider a small one that took plugs out as it went round (only have a quad to pull it) but didn't buy in the end. I did see a local farmer with a huge slitter doing a field near us so might try him. The only thing is it will be a huge tractor pulling it, so defeats some of the purpose

I've had the slitter - I bought over grazed fields which get wet & hadn't been rested. It didn't get done until May due to weather & farmer's availability but well worth it. All the fields looked fabulous for the next 2 years.

They really need doing again but the guy who did them last time has quoted me a huge price.

Yes, it’s on a bigger scale than that, but nephew’s been slitting all this week (particular attention to any molehill areas, devious little devils!)
If your ground is badly compacted, been waterlogged and drying hard, it should be helpful, but you’d have to balance that against the working weight of the tractor and aerator. Probably would be better if you can find a mini version for a quad? We don’t do every single field every year, and are not on clay anyway.
