Hi all does anyone know of any fields/small yards for rent (ie someone has unused stables in there back ) or DIY livery at reasonable rates in the Orpington area and surrounds? Must be on a bus route sadly at my age I still dont drive?

Really urgent I have to find somewhere in next couple of weeks for my boy as the place I keep him at is a danger zone, has gotton worse recently I swear the owner/runner is mad she has 19 horses she dose nothing with the fields are over grazed and so on and there is rubbish and cars and junk every where and he has already had an accident there due to the state of the fences that are not maintained at all I am worried sick to leave him there anymore but am having a real problem finding somewhere as most places now only want part/full livery and charge the earth I want to DIY as point of having a orse, yes I need some assistance but thats why I would really prefer a small field with shelter or a couple stables that someone is will to rent out to me I am supposed to be getting a small driving pony in two weeks but do not want to move that to the hovel I am at so really desparate for anything.

I do not mind if it is run down and/or neesds work am happy and willing to do any maintanance work as long as fences are secure and there is a water supply am happy, electricity and ridinag area a bonus but not essential just somewhere nice and quite (kids free yards pleas) for me and my boy and his new ( I hope) pal to enjoy life what it is supposed to be and not this constant worry his gonna get get hrut again and not fed ( thats happened too when they promised they would feed him) its a nightmare and so anything considered at right price am really in desparate need of any assistance anyone out there can offer I do not want to fell my baby but might have to just to get him outta there HELP please anyone???????

How far are you willing to travel? If you go across to Hayes/ Keston area (which is only 20mins or so away out of rush hour) there are tonnes of livery yards/ fields for rent.

Off the top of my head (although bear in mind, I moved from Bromley almost 2 years ago, so this is slightly out of date and what each yard offers may have changed):

-Hayes Farm used to offer DIY/ grass livery and I'd assume they still do. There was also a place next to it (off Oakley Road I think?) where I had a friend who hired a field w/ stabling (although that was years ago).

-Off/ around Layhams Road there are loads of yards/ fields for hire, although I think a lot of them are now part/full; North Pole Farm Livery Yard, Fortune Bank, Tom's yard(can't remember its proper name), Wickham Court (pretty sure you can do DIY here, but its large and always had a rep for being bitchy), Layhams Farm Livery yard (this is all new, only recently opened), Greenacres, Foxhill Farm, plus other random fields for hire etc. It may be worth havinga drive over and chatting to people and see whats available. I know a lot of it in terms of 'those are the twins fields, of which some seem to be hired out, but as I'm at a yard I'm not going to enquire!

-further across towards Croyden there's Fickleshole Farm and Fairchildes Farm in Fickleshole.

There are tonnes of other places around here, the thing is I think the type of place you'd be interested in (thinking about it there's also fields along Gates Green Road too)

Good luck! :)

ETA You could also get DIY livery at a farm in Green Street Green (just off the roundabout) too a few years back

Ok firstly yes I am sure Longlands don't do DIY only at £60 and you supply all hay feed bedding they do it Mon to Fri not what I want and too expensive.

I know of some of the yards you mentioned but as I don't drive they are mainly to akward to get to for me. I work in Oakley Road and I know there's fields there but look full and no idea who you contact. Yes I am thinking of driving (well hoping on bus and walking) around to places just wondered if anyone here knew of anyrhing or had any contact numbers I could call?
I am going to look at a place in Chiselhurst which sounds good but until I go can't say.
Thanks for the suggestions will keep looking just as I want to get him moved asap its not that easy and as he is a big boy not all stables are big enough for him which adds to the problem.

Hmmm, ok didn't realise transport would be an issue.

In which case scratch the fickleshole two and some of the ones further up Layhams....

But I'd still have a meander over to Gates Green Road (you could get a bus to Coney Hall then its a 5/10 min walk, or even just cycle there through Keston, down Fox Hill) and according to google the number for Hayes Farm is 020 8462 1186 (this may be a good bet for you - the 119 bus passes right outside the farm and Hayes High street is just a 5 min walk away where more buses pass, or if you're at Oakley Road you could just cycle over or cut across the fields and walk). Unfortunately the person I knew who had a horse in one of the fields near Oakley was my old childminder, who I haven't spoken to in years (a. because I'm no longer a child and b. she moved away). It may be worth leaving a note on one of the gates politely asking though?

May be worth getting in touch with Chelsham and Bromley RC and the BBAC (Bromley Bridleways Access Group) as one of their committee members may be able to give you some numbers and more up to date info? (The BBAG runs a couple of rides a year through the Baston/ WW Common area, so I'd assume at least one of them is familiar with the area!)
