I met a couple of field spaniels today. Lovely looking dogs and owner says they’re much calmer than springers and working cockers. She’s had both. Anyone got them?

Yep they’re much calmer than springers, l have both 
fieldies and springers that is, but they are still relatively rare.

I hadn’t ever heard of them before. They sound delightful and just my sort of dog.

Some people mistakenly think they’re working cockers but they are very different, they can work - there’s a field trials group and some work as well as show. They are sometimes ‘choosy’ about who they’ll associate with, the dogs that is 
one of mine is very selective about who she feels is worth paying attention to but they’re not as ‘in your face’ as springers. They are mainly liver with some blacks and a few liver and white, black and white and roan.

I also know of a Black and Tan, recently imported by a show person to reintroduce the colour and increase genetic diversity in this country. This is a recognised colour

I think they are beautiful dogs and it’s great to support rarer breeds.

Yes, met one recently when I took my Cocker Spaniel to our local puppy class. Lovely pup.
