Just thinking ahead to the grass growing season.
OH and I are thinking of getting a quad bike to help maintain our 8 acres . Does anyone have experience of towing a motorised topper behind a quad bike?
We’re thinking of a quad because of maintaining the arena, it’s 40 x 20 so easier to get in the corners than a tractor. We’re hoping a good quad would be a good all round ‘work horse’ for general pasture and arena maintenance, but OH has reservations about motorised toppers for the paddocks. Your opinions and experiences would be most welcome….

We use an old lawn tractor to tow a Harrow & motorised topper. The mowing part of the lawn tractor has long since died, its got no value therfore unlikely to be stolen like a quad.
It's less powerful than a quad but does the job. If you can keep a quad secure it will do the job easily

You won't regret getting a quad. I really didn't want OH to get one as I thought it wouldn't get used, but he proved me wrong and it's used at least once a week. And I'm heart broken when it isn't working. I've insured ours as I'm paranoid about it getting stolen.

We have a chain harrow and a trailer for ours. My friend had a petrol flayer/topper which she only used a handful of times and then sold on for half the money. So I'd suggest to look at the second hand market for value for money.

We have a motorised topper, can't remember the name of It. To be honest I only use it once (maybe twice) a year but it's so good to have the equipment there when the time/field is dry is right

Go for a good quality topper, we have a Logic flail topper and it's really robust. We had a Quad X mower bought new and I wasn't impressed. Our fields are flat but going over very slightly uneven ground one of the blades tore the top casing. The electric start also broke after minimum use too.
