Advice please

My horse has a small winter field, another horse next door got through the fence so they have had a good run round my field and in the wet conditions not helped matters, horse has turned the entrance to his gate way into a bog and both of his fence lines are in an equally bad state just leaving a small area of "grass" him and the horses next door are the last ones out till I can get down yard after work so I know he has been pacing.

Do I bring him in at midday? This saving him getting upset at night, saving wear and tear on his legs going through deep mud ( especially the leg with screw in) and give the paddock a rest?
Or am I just being too OCD
Sorry for long winded post:p

I am restricting turn out to two hours ( a bit more on a rest day ) I have four out together much longer than two hours and they get bored and start mucking on pulling at each others rugs rearing biting each other .
The field is a very wet ATM.

If he's happy and relaxed being in for longer then I probably would. If he's restless then it's not really going to rest his legs, so it's more difficult.
As the owner of 3 who trash a paddock every winter living out... it's amazing how fields recover in the Spring.

Mine are also coming in at lunchtime, 2pm at the latest.

I know the fields will recover but the horses are desparate to get out of the mud, and not overly keen on the grass soup that is all we have left!

If I could put hay out in the field, they may stay out a little longer, but they fight over it and makes the field worse.

Short term pain, long term gain in my view!

My fields arent too bad but they are a wee bit waterlogged and the gateways arent looking too clever so my guys are going out at 10 coming in at 4 just now which theyre coping with really well. The fields always come back but id rather restrict turnout than completely trash the fields.

Mine come in at lunchtime, they are more than happy to spend the afternoon with a good helping of hay. On the days when the weather is bad, they stay in, my mare is ridden and the two little ones have large stables and get a leg stretch in the yard. None are going stir crazy, they are all in a routine!!
