It means she can get herself out of trouble when jumping or going across country.

I'd generally take that to mean that he was very nimble jumping, ie can find an extra leg when necessary to hold himself up on a dodgy landing..

The only time I've heard the "fifth leg" thing was my old cob being nicknamed "5 legged Zak!"

Now he WAS pretty smart and bold... but I'm pretty sure it was a physical leg!!

My friend was peeing herself! He did it again another day. He was just so relaxed. I am tall and he was 15.3, and it used to swing from side to side slapping the bottom of my boot! Terribly embarrassing if anyone saw us.

I wonder where he is now - his name was High Tea (Harry) and he was so bright a bay he was really a chestnut with black points.
