For the last three days, my mare has had filled back legs in the morning. There's no heat, they're not sore or stiff (she's completely sound and happy to pick her feet up) and I can see any scabs or wounds.
If I work her or turn her out, they go down.
She has had this before, but only one leg and only for one day - I assumed she must have banged herself on that occasion.
She is in season (despite having a marble!) and is weeing/squirting a lot. I am washing her legs when she comes in from the field to stop her getting sore and to keep the flies off her.
Any ideas, should I be worried?

my TB gelding would suffer from this after being in over night, my vet suggested usung the herb cleaves in his feed, after a few days on this no swelling! it was like a miracle. i now give him this when he is in.

my big hunter suffered from filled legs (lymphangitis), not severely but enough! Vet recommended daily gentle exercise, cold hosing and leg wraps (thermatex ones with cordura on outside are the best as dont get bedding stuck to them). He also had half a bute to reduce the swelling initially.

oddly since moving him (hes 17h) to our own place where he has an 16x12 stable instead of 12x12 hes never suffered again...3 years now.

Hi there

My 17yo mare has suffered overnight filling in her hind legs for years, and it's never caused her any problems.... we just had to walk her around for a few minutes before we could put any boots on!! Interestingly though, she's now in foal and not suffering anywhere near as much - I would have expected it the other way round!

If your girlie is not sore, I personally wouldn't worry too much! :-)
