hey all
got to the yard this morning to discover one of my gees had a very filled back leg, there was no heat or lameness.

I cold wrapped it and walked him around for a while and the swelling went down a little, so i turned him out into his paddock, i went back a little later and there wa still no heat or lameness.

His legs do sometimes fill at night and in all fairness i didnt bandage him last night.(his stable is relatively small considering his size)

any advice on what to do or what may have caused it would be appreciated

Twiglet had this a couple of weeks ago - was an infection following a hoof abscess. Some antibiotics and bandaging and he was fine a couple of days later.
Reckon it's probably the mud fever tbh, glad it appears to be better now

Horse on our yard had identical problem. Owner hacked out gently and swelling went down. They sometimes fill again at night but as soon as he goes out, it goes back to normal. She's back competing him and he is spot on. My farrier explained to me that the foot on the horse works a bit like a pump and they are designed to be moving to keep the circulation going. When they are stood in the stable, the pump can't work as effectively and hence the legs swell.
