We had a "fast" hack yesterday and did ALOT of canter work on very good ground. Checked his legs last thing last night, and they were fine, then checked them this morning and his legs were filled

One back leg and especially, but they were cold, and he was 100% sound. I turned him out this morning, and he was full of the joys, but should I be worried (cos i am!!) he is stabled on Equimat rubber matting, so just wandered if the standing about after the fast work may be the cause of his filled legs? Or something more sinister?

See what his legs are like when you get him in tonight, in theory they should of gone down. My mare randomly gets filled legs. She has had the vet out and tests done and there was nothing wrong with them!
They usually go down after they go out and have had a walk around. If they are still up tonight I would be tempted to phone the vet and see what they say over the phone.

Thanks, yeah that was my thought too...fingers crossed, I am probably over reacting, its just he very rarely gets any change in his legs

Generally filled is a lot less worrying than 1 leg with a swollen bit on it. So long as they go back down quickly prob nothing to worry about. Slightly unusual to suddenly do it. One of mine often has slightly puffy back legs in the mornings & they go down virtually as soon as he walks anywhere. The other horse ALWAYS has hard, tight cool legs so I would be worried if his suddenly puffed up. Have a really, really good prod around in case there is a tiny weeny nick somewhere. If in doubt cold hosing never ever does anything any harm x

Yeah that was my thought, thanks... I just wander if its just cos its the first time he has done any proper fast work for a while...

He normally does have very cold hard legs, which is probably why I worry!! Hopefully its just cos he did the fast work quite late on yesterday, and then was stood in over night... he was "cool" when he got in, but hadnt walked for that far before getting in.

If hes managed to nick his legs he could have mild mud fever. This is what happened with mine no lameness or heat and tiniest little cut.
