my tb gets filled legs when in the stable, which is a nightmare when i ride as i cannot put his brushing boots on his hind legs until he has been warmed up!!! would the use of stable wraps( non magnetic) help?? ive seen some on ebay that are fur lined and it says keeps legs warm etc. would that help to keep the swelling down?????
i dont want to use bandages as i would not feel confident that i have done them up properly. also with wraps-do i apply them after exercise when swelling has gone or with the swelling there??? i dont want the boots to become tight dhould his legs swell under the wrap???
help!!

Hi There, my tb suffers the same thing, i use thermalux stable wraps and find they are brilliant but i also make sure she has a good thick bed and you may also find it worthwhile to look at what you're feeding i found that feeding sugarbeet made her 20 times worse so switched to speedy beet. Hope this helps :-)

If the filling is pronounced, I'm not sure that wraps will stop it enough to let you fit boots straight away.
The trouble is that anything that puts enough pressure on the legs to prevent/reduce the swelling might be risky if you are not confident that you can do an even tension.
If you are good at bandaging, you can use stable bandages with slightly greater tension than usual...
Could you not maybe turn him out for 10 mins before you tack him up (maybe in the school?) to reduce the filling?
S :D

This happens to my tb aswell but only his back legs ... his only fill if he's had a day off in his stable ... i usually walk him in hand for 10 mins before i tack up etc iv also been told some joint supplements stop filling!

feeding clivers helps - its a herb - helps the lymphatic system - mine gets windgalls - helps that too!! you can find it on internet hilton herbs, or ebay shops

leg wraps (I use thermatex cordura covered as they dont endlessly get bedding stuck to them!) are much better option than bandages, as you cant really do them so tight or uneven pressure to cause the probs you can with bandages. Also a lot quicker. I cold hosed for 10 mins, dried the legs then popped them on. Gentle exercise every day (even just walking in hand) is essential too to get the stuff draining.

I also found when we moved to a place with an 18x12 stable (hes 17 hh) hes stopped having the prob as he can move around a lot more and that stops the swelling.
