Generally thru the summer it’s never an issue, but because they are coming in during the day and also the lack of grazing for my big chap as he’s had to be restricted to keep him away from
the bully, he’s spending much of the time standing still and as a consequence both his legs are filling up. I’ve tried equinutritive herbs with no real improvement, and obvs thermatex boots are out of the question atm, so does anyone have any suggestions? They take ages to go down, in fact even after 40 mins walking out, they still aren’t 100% clean.

Try boswellia, it helped one of mine who had filled legs every winter when stabled more. That wasn't what I was giving him it for, but a few weeks in I noticed that his legs were no longer filled in the morning. I use the one from HorseHerbs on eBay.

Is he getting enough salt? I had one who got filled legs when I ran out of salt one winter. Didn't connect the dots until I got salt back in her feed and the legs returned to normal. Perhaps he's sweating out more salt than usual.

OMG!! I never thought of that! They have definitely got worse the last few weeks. That is a really good shout, thank you.

Just looked up the signs of deficiency and whilst it didn't mention filled legs, it did mention rough coat, which the vet put down to his age when she was last out. He's not doing much, if any, work atm, so will add 10gm to his feed from now on. Thanks again.

Almost 21. Vet said no, don’t tell me how they’d know without testing. Change of vets anyway now they’ve moved and a fresh pair of eyes.

At that age I'd do an annual test anyway even without symptoms, best to catch any problems early. We tested every pony over 20 annually, worth it to catch early for laminitis risk alone.

Can you borrow or loan some ice vibe boots?

back in the days of old, if we had anything that had to be stood in during the day we would lift their beds in the morning. They would stand on the cold concrete floors. This helped 'draw' any heat or swelling out of legs.

Lady at my yard has an unbroken 15 yr old pony who was on 1 leg last week. I said to her to be careful there was a raised pulse and a lot of heat in legs! Could be lami. She brought her in and she wasnt any better next morning so she called the vet! Vet said restricted diet stay in for 4 weeks , sedalin for blood flow, danilon and 18 paracetamol twice a day!!!!
I was shocked! Paracetamol? Imagine chewing all of them in a tiny handful of chaff twice a day!

And another friends horse has just came down with lymphangitis ! Jees
