I have decided that if I ever buy another horse when I ask about the horse I'm not going to bother asking what it's like to ride or if it has any stable vices. Nope, all I want to know is, is it clean in it's stable?
Monty is THE filthiest beast I have ever known in his stable. I wish I could find the big wooden spoon he uses to stir it all up

At the mo he is on straw but I have got some rubber mats coming so was wondering, all you people with filthy beasts (there must be some, I can't be the only unlucky person) what bedding do you use for your filthy beasties?

Gizmo is a complete nightmare, instead of doing one big poo at a time,he pops out a couple of little marbles every twenty minutes or so.Im not allowed straw at my yard all on shavings but he was a complete joke to muck out on this as he treads it in so much.He has mats too . I decided to try him on bedmax and this is great for him as the larger flakes seem to seprate from the poo not as soft as shavings but dont waste as much beddung.

there is a hole at the back of the stable in the bottom corner and she pees there so it all runs out and poos in one big pile (looks like an elephant has done it hehe but shes like it in the field as well and has her designated poo spots :grn: i do not envy you i used to have a gelding that was REALLY messy and all his bedding had to be taken out every day

if i have a filthy beast (and i've had a few) they can have a grass bed, 24/7

i once had a box walking, weaving, vice-ridden, agressive maniac (ex racehorse) in for training, his bedding was well and truly stirred by morn... makes excellent compost.

he was given a huge stable (nearly define it as a barn) with a wide 5" door, two window views, a straw bed, plenty of hay and plenty of turn-out, and he stopped all of his vices within 3 days... bless you victor, where are you now?

I think that is the best question to ask when buying a new horse

Thankfully my pony isn't too dirty but at the college yard I used to be at was discusting!!! He would have NO clean bedding in the morning you would have to take it ALL out, he was that bad....yet he was always clean. He was on matting and shavings.

2 of mine are filthy beast on straw every day i had to take the hole lot out, i put them on shavings now and they are so much cleaner, i now skip out every day and muck out every saturday.

Quote..... 'with a wide 5" door'

I think you may need to feed your horse a little more if he fits through this size door!!!

i use a really thin layer of shavings on good, well fitted rubber mats (the people who had the stable before us had them fitted, when they moved yards they sold them to us) and it's so much easier then a deep bed! (what he used to be on)

seriously, there are about 20 massive poos in there in the mornings...

and his stable rug that used to be blue is now a nasty shade of yellowy brown...
