I have tried several calmer's over the last 6 months on my anxious/excitable ISH, now I have found one that works but it has valerian in it (won't name it for fear of advertising!)

It really, really does work but am I sedating my horse with it?

I know it is a herb (is it?) and not a chemical, anyway it works - so I am happy & I have a happy, calm horse to travel/ride, we are no where near competing yet (as I know valerian is not competition legal)

Also, as he is not so stressed he is now putting on weight and looks so much better - happy days!

Here are the ingredients: contains a blend of Valeriana officinalis, Passiflora incarnata,Vitamin B1, Humulus lupulus.

What do you think?

Its a herb....I would think its ok esp as you are not competing....

.........can you PM me the name if you dont wish to put it on the post, as I have a stress-head who gets upset if his routine changes and he's moving into a new stable block soon- I fear the return of the box-walking/weaving maniac he was several years ago....

Hi, I have PM'd you, LOL I have had 8 PM's for the name of it!

Good luck if you all get some, it has worked for me & my horse .. taking him out Autumn Hunting on Monday - I would have never have even thought about it before he was on this calmer - fingers crossed it does it's stuff on Monday - gulp!

Thanks but did you use the powder or the liquid?

I have just posted this message to someone who PM'd me, so i will let you know how it worked for me & my horse ...

Quote: Hi, No problem, I was the same as you, I have tried all the magnesium calmer's with not really any effect except maybe to take the edge off him (with a double dose!)

I actually saw this calmer mentioned on this forum by somebody and I thought I would try it as it was a different ingredient. My horse is really anxious when you ride him, like he is worried all the time that you are going to tell him off, he is also jumpy/spooky in the stable for no reason.

I have been adding this Anxicalm for just a few days when I noticed how much calmer he is, he is still not perfect but defiantly much better and I have taken him out in the trailer, he just doesn't seem to care now where as before he was double barrelling the back door!!

I can't say if it will work for your horse, that sounds horrible being dumped, I was also begining to lose my confidence and didn't look forward to getting on him - all I can say is now I can't wait to ride him!

Good luck H x
