I have been having problems with my 5 year old since christmas, he's unhappy in the school and working round especially in canter. had the physio out and she said he was just week and needed a lot of pessoa work and stretches.
after a month and a few treatments there was still no improvement so we got the vet out for xrays. he found that his hind legs were badly put together at the foot (where the bones were supposed to go straight to the hoof, his curve.) he said this could either be down to his back, or his bad back being down to his poor feet. he then found a boney mass on his back, causing two of the 'fingers' to touch causing him pain although not really a kissing spine. he injectied him with cortisone to relieve the swelling.
i have to get remedial shoeing for his back feet to put a wedge in pushing his feet into the correct position, and we'll see if this helps his back. if not an op to cut the bone off may be needed =S

tea and biscuits for getting this far, and any experiences / get well soon vibes would be appreciated =]

here are the xrays for those who are interested:

collasped pedal bones are becoming very common, my lad had then made a full recovery at the age of 16 so fingerscrossed your lad will bounce back.

Sorry Lady Rascasse but that's not a collapsed pedal bone, just a broken back hoof pastern axis. OP I hope you can sort him out easily. Remedial shoeing should sort his foot out. Hope his back can be fixed without too much trouble.
