Well OH did a really good job on a client's horse in the open section of the Advanced Medium. The horse had only been back in schooling work for three weeks and he had never ridden him at a competition until Addington!
He got a range of marks of marks including an 8 and a 0! Hoewever he mainly got 6s and 7s and without the break in the extended canter he would have finished around the mid 60s mark which would have out him around half-way.
The owner was delighted and I was very proud of him as it must have been quite scary warming up with all the 'big' names on some truly lovely horses. He rode beautifully and I think it really boosted his confidence. He got a lovely comment from David Trott who said hard luck today!
He really wanted to get over 60% and he just fell short with 59.47% however what I told him was that he had acheived that mark riding a horse who he only started riding 2 weeks ago. He rode him about 4 times over the last two weeks and has previously only ridden him for the owner when she has been on holiday or ill. He was competing against pros who have ridden and trained their horse from scratch.
Now for my 2 little moans.
I withdrew Diva on February 5th, this was three days before the close of entries, I emailed them and rang on several occasions asking if they wanted a vets certificate. No one replied or returned my call. I then found out that my cheque for £55 had been cashed on the 4th. We arrived at AMEC to find that Diva was not on the start list for the Open Novice, instead she was down for the Open Adv Med!!!!!
I appreaciate that the organisers were very busy but they basically refused to help us sort out the problem as to why Diva was entered and not the horse Mark was supposed to be riding. They had not cashed the owners cheque and rather than rip hers up and she give me the same amount. They said they will reissue me with a cheque minus an admin fee.
After sending us away and telling me to ring them today or tomorrow they then put a call out for us to go back and sort out the mistake over entries.
Then on the Saturday I get a call from a very well known riders wife demanding to speak to my husband. How she got our number I don't know.
She then accused him of borrowing a bit and leaving AMEC without giving it back. she was really rude and although she knew the name of the horse he had ridden she kept saying he was entered in the novice.
OH just I'm sorry I have no idea what you are talking about, I didn't borrow a bit and I didn't ride until 8.10 in the Ad Med in the evening and didn't arrive until after the Novice had finished. She then said she was really cross as it was a KK bit and someone had not returned it.
I can understand how annoying it must be but it wasn't us - we were not even there! How can someone be as callous as to use our name knowing we would cop the flack!
