Hi ? Is anybody horse virtually unrideable after not being ridden for 3/4 week due to snow and ice ??? Took her out yesterday and had to get off after 10 mins and comw back. She was constantly trying to take off with me,spinning and threatening to buck.It was on a fairly quiet road but there were lots of people out walking so got off! Only had her 6 month and the last couple of months before this she was doing so well. She was getting ridden 3/4 times a week. Alone and in company. Feel like we have taken 3 steps back ?. Forgot to say we don't have an arena . X

Are they ? We have a grass paddock in dry weather we use but not in winter. Really upset me because she has took a lot of work and patience and she was doing great. Feel like we have took 3 steps back. Hopefully can get her out more now weather better and she wil get back to ner normal self ? it really knocks my confidence when this happens and I had only just built it back up x

Your horse will not have forgotten all he has learnt in the last few months but it is difficult to start again especially when alone. Is there someone who has a sensible horse who could ride with you? That may help your horse remain more calm.

I haven’t ridden for 4 weeks because of wind, snow and ice. Last night it snowed again and froze hard.It is forecast to snow again during the next week. I don’t have an arena and can only ride straight on to the lane which is on a hill.
My pony will probably go to a local stable to be ‘restarted’. I am too old to want to cope with the silliness that comes after a layoff.
I think I might even abandon all thoughts of riding until spring!

She does tend to get excited when riding out with others. So much prefer riding on my own normally. The yard owner rides her occasionally with the others.
I am the same since I have got older and had kids I really can't cope with the silliness and definitely don't want to put myself in an unsafe position. There is another horse I could try ride with thats sensible. X
