Just a bit of a celebratory post
When I first started riding blue he ran around with his head in the air with a hollow back and anytime you asked for any lateral movement he just ran. He was ridden in a pelham as you had to chase him into canter but once you got the transition he‘d bolt off in wall of death. In trot he had one speed and that was all you got. If you picked up any contact he threw his head in the air and ran through it.
He has been working really well this week, working into the contact (he’s now in a french link snaffle), from behind and over his back much more (instead of looking like a llama), leg yields are getting straighter and he’s even starting to get shoulder in! His canter traditions are much sharper and although we can‘t get variation in the pace he will circle and come back to trot when asked. He can now do a nice collected and working trot and we’re starting to get a nice medium trot, just need to work more on not hollowing or falling out when I ask for a longer stride.
Today I set up a fan of 5 poles, 3 raised on the inside. I knew it would challenge him but I thought we’d give it a go, 2 months ago we would have tripped our way through, sending poles everywhere. Today we over and omg it was amazing! I just felt him lift himself and the power . Makes me very excited about what he’s capable of.
Such a great feeling and I’m getting very nice compliments from his owners too which is always brilliant.
next goals to work toward:
medium trot
shoulder in
Adjustability in canter - The good thing with his canter is its the only gait where he naturally works quite nicely, you can really feel him lift his back, he just needs to be off the forehand a bit more.
