finbarr biting combination?

I was watching a bit of the british open on horse & country last night and saw Robert whitaker jump finbarr. Does anybody know what bit/combination he was using- it was hard to see/tell but looked like a hackamore and snaffle? it looked complicated!

Nope it is a hackamore and a snaffle!

Snaffle for steering mainly.

I couldnt tell either then i stumbled across that and thought it might be .

I think there was a little feature in H&H a few months back, in the part where they say what item of equipment a top rider is using and why, so could be online here somewhere explaining in more detail??

Also he uses roundings on the hackamore to the snaffle which makes it look more odd! Plus it is a german hackamore rather than your standard english one!

oh yes, I forgot about the roundings as well, it does look so bizarre. almost as if "what's lying around in the tackroom today". it didn't work though he had 1 down ;o)
