Or, to be more precise, find one for my parents please :)

They have decided their rescue terrier is hating being an only dog now their life is a bit quieter and a couple of regular visiting dogs aren't coming any more for one reason or another. So my Mum wants another poodle as she grew up with them. They are happy to have a rescue but were dismissed at the first phone call to the breed rescue because their drive has no gate and their garden isn't fully enclosed (never mind that the lane only has about 6 cars a day and they managed to train Cassie to stay off the road fairly easily plus she is never out there unsupervised). So I was wondering if any of you knowledgeable peeps had any bright ideas or recommendations of good breeders etc plus what health tests should they expect to see or other things to look out for. They would prefer a toy but would be open to a mini from the right place. (My Dad will not countenance a x breed with poo in the name :D )

Cassie is 6 so something younger than that would be ideal - maybe a failed show dog? And I think she would get on with a dog better than a bitch.

One last thing, Mum has seen someone who is breeding parti-coloured poodles which I had never heard of before. Are there any particular issues with them?

Thanks all :D

Just to add - they would probably wait til after Christmas if they get a pup so there isn't too much upheaval for him, and they are in Staffordshire so the closer to that the better

What size poodle and how difficult can it be to put up a bit of an enclosure?

I wouldn't rehome or sell to someone not prepared to put a barrier between a new dog and a road, however quiet.

Ask keeperscottage - I think its her OH who has 2:D they aren't her favourites as she likes a spangle/proper dog;):D:D:D so she may give you one!:D:D:D

In all seriousness Sweep is off for a haircut and his hairdressers has poodles and breeds them - I can ask her if you like:) I think they are apricot and chocolate brown:) no idea what size of Poo they are as I don't like to look to closely.......;):D:D:D

FWIW s4sugar my parents have kept dogs this way for decades and all have lived to a ripe old age. Personally I have always found mental barriers to be more solid than physical ones :)

Slinky - thanks that would be great. I've been told the apricot coloured poos are the ones to watch out for

Very funny, Slnkyunicorn!:D Yup, I hate to say it, but I loathe OH's pair of vile, disgusting poodles! The standard is a nuisance barker, tries (and fails) to dominate the other dogs by aggression (Lottie the Golden Retriever is Top Dog in our house - it's amazing how if there's, for example, a squabble over food, she just stands over the dogs involved and they simply part and walk away from one another - no barking, no contact, just very quietly in control!), the toy x minature is unbelievably needy, wimpers after OH the moment she can't see him, is always sitting on his lap and snarls at my dogs if any of them approach her - UGH!!!! I could go on her hours about them! AND OH thinks my dogs are frightened of my daughter and I because they are so well behaved!!!!! He never tells them off, whenever we go out, they have to sit in the car, not at the back behind the dog guard, whenever we go into a food store, he buys them packs of sliced beef or chicken, which he then feeds them in the car........SO spoilt and badly behaved it's untrue! Oh, and ultra-vile and disgusting standard can't bear to see my dogs playing together - she has to go and bark at them and ruin their fun!

My friend's husband said he'd get rid of them for 50p - the price of the two cartridges (don't worry - he was only joking!)!:D

Can't your parents get a NICE breed, Brownmare?;)

Oh, and what really pi$$es me off, you wouldn't believe the number of people who come up to us on a walk and tell him what lovely dogs they are. They then invariably look at my GORGEOUS Large Munsterlander and ask "And what sort of cross is he?"!!!! (Needless to say, this is when we're walking outside of our local, rural area where people appreciate working dogs, not ghastly French Poodles!

Okay, rant over, I shall now sit here and wait to be shot down by poodle-lovers.............!!!!!:D

My friend is in nuneaton, is a dig breeder and is about to advertise her toy poodle pups, chocolate coloured ones , let me know if you want details

Yes please sam-b that would be fab :) What health tests do they have etc?

keeperscottage - your OH's standard sounds just like my OH's evil Jack russell who also gets tons of cutesie comments out walking while my beautiful whippet & lurcher get ignored  ...... perhaps the problem lies with the OHs not the dogs :D

I have 2 poodles, one minature and one toy x minature. They both have lovely temperaments, very well behaved and very easy to train. I have not met anyone who does not take to my dogs, as they are great with kids (even had kids scared of dogs ending up wanting to brush mine) and they do tricks, and can jump really high to catch a ball. Sorry rant over!!!! I live in France so got mine from breeders here so can't help you there I'm afraid, just butted in to stick up for the breed.

As for tri colour poodles, I wanted one of those but they seemed to be more over near Germany, couldn't find any breeders near me.

Yes, Brownmare, I agree with you!:) They totally rule OH and it really pees me off when he won't discipline them.......standard barks and barks, when she stops, he pats her and makes a fuss of her. I told him that, in her eyes, he was rewarding her for barking, but he said no, he was rewarding her because she'd stopped!!!!!! I just keep my mouth shut now! He thinks I'm terrible because I feed my dogs raw whereas he will buy Tesco cooked chickens and take all the meat off the carcass for their supper........ Think I need to start a thread some time in the future about spoilt dogs - I'd be interested to read how they fare compared to other spoilt dogs!:D

We rehomed 3 recently..........how dare you ask to late:p
They are super cool...poodles, to clever for their own good but cool as you like, I think they are making a good choice.:) there is a poodle rescue somewhere.
Pucci may beable to help you seek one out too.

My OH used to give Susie cornflakes and a cup of tea for breakfast  but he did have enough tact to stop that once he moved in with me :p She used to be a fussy eater (HAD to have grated cheese etc) but wolfs her dry food down now...

Unfortunately I don't know of anyone with litters on the way.

I know you said the breed rescue wouldn't help you, but I would contact Many Tears. They've had some toy poodles that have been of really lovely nature come thru there.

Good luck - but I'll keep my eyes open anyway.

Yup - OH's are fussy eaters, too! Drives me made how they sniff and turn their noses up at literally everything before eating it (that's IF they eat it at all!)! He thinks they are "dainty eaters" because they are "ladies"!!!! Reckons mine are an abnormal bunch of hooligans because they eat just about anything and gulp everything down in seconds! I think HIS dogs are the abnormal ones!!!!

In all fairness to your OH's poodles keeperscottage, I think their "problems" are more down to him than to their breed. I don't think I would have a poodle but I have known some cracking working ones, particularly standards, given the chance they are very intelligent dogs who love to have a job to do.
