This is probably going to end up being a very long and complicated post with lots of pros and cons so hold on tight!

I am a dressage rider schooling the current horse I have to ride to elementary level (some medium movements) and have ridden PSG horses, worked at different yards polo, carriage driving, dressage etc etc. I have gone through the years riding other peoples horses, and have had a youngster on loan for a year.

I have a lovely horse to ride at the moment but there are a few parts of my agreement with the owner that is holding me back - predominantly that I am only allowed to ride 3 times a week and its difficult for me to get transport to compete. I have however been offered *another* ride - ex event horse that is VERY unfit as just had a foal but is a lovely horse with a nice temperament and I would get more chances to compete with but probably not as much dressage which is what I want to do. Also I would end up paying for facilities such as a school to use (which I dont mind doing as this is still a cheaper option than my current ride, but still worth bearing in mind). I'm going to uni in october so no point in buying or loaning. I did consider buying a foal and keeping it whilst i'm at uni and then breaking it so that when I finish I have a nice horse to ride but have decided against that option as my poor mum would end up having to help out (not that she doesn't already!). I started a working pupil/ apprenticeship so that I could get tuition/ opportunities to compete but that didn't work out.

I think basically is that I don't know whether I should just count myself lucky and continue with what I've got, or to look down other avenues. Surely there must be someone out there with a horse that they want schooled and competed!
