Firstly apologies if this is in the wrong section :)

I havn't managed to ride properly since the summer due to lack of financed :(. I am now looking into doing my stage 3 and need to be riding regularly and become more comp fit.

I am considering trying to find a horse/s in my local area (Northampton) that I could school - flat or jump 2/3 times p/w FOC. 15'2+ preferably as I'm 5'8 although smaller, bigger bones types would be fine just craving to get back in the saddle :)

Does this sound like a possibility? Are there people around who would want/need their horse schooling free of charge?

Oh god me, of you lived anywhere near me is snap you up! I've been looking for someone to come and ride my boy for at least 5weeks while I'm in s leg cast-nothing to do with him! And then with the possibility of it becoming more permanent if everything was going well. I've emailed my local uni riding club thinking that there might be a horsey student who can't afford to ride at uni, or someone on one of the uni teams who wants more than a weekly lesson -but no response....I'm not really sure where else to advertise, as I do nt really want to run the risk of numptys looking for a free ride , thinking I might have to go down the route of finding a proand pay *sigh*......fancy moving up north for 5weeks I've got a spate room!

Sorry to hijack the thread - those of you with horses that need riding, would you rather find someone through word of mouth rather than advertising?

I'm planning what I'll do next when my loan horse retires and I'm thinking of going back to riding for other people and putting an ad in local paper and my friend's saddlery to see what comes of it.

Hi,
I also live in Northampton and tried to find a horse to loan at the start of last summer but couldnt find anything suitable...
There are various websites which advertise horses for loan but I'd be a little bit wary as I've gone to trial a couple of horses who had adverts online only to find that the horse is a complete nutcase (ie. galloping across the school and bucking) and the owner clearly didnt have the time to correct it.
You could try asking local tack shows and stables, generally the best way is through word of mouth/friend of a friend, that way you know the horse is safe and the owner knows they can trust you with their horse.
Good luck finding one!

I'd rather word of mouth, I am advertising at the minute and have had people try him but they haven't been suitable. Would be happier if it was someone I knew of....

It depends how much work you want, I have a pony which we have put off backing as we have no rider, so he is currently just sitting in the field, he has had someone on him, but as we have no rider, we have gone no further tbh. he is just over 14hh, but stocky.

Thanks, I reckon word of mouth is way to go then at least there's a better chance of it being a suitable match. I think I would try putting a notice in my friend's shop too, I managed to get my loan horse that way and I keep him at her yard so anyone could get as much info on me as poss as she's known me for years. I would love to buy another one but I'm so attached to my loan horse that he may retire with me and I cannot afford two. I'm time rich and cash poor! :D

Im in rugby, too far?? could move her to a yard nearer Northampton, I am desperate for someone to come and school my mare,as often as you like, I enjoy hacking but my riding isnt good enough to school my 5 year old as she has never been schooled(officially) Ive had a few lessons on her.She is at home on our farm now but I will move her to a livery yard soon.15hh and very beautiful. Please feel free to get in touch if you are interested.
