so excited!!!

Anyway Bud will move down from mums and leave his two mates behind, two 2 yr olds. They go out in adjacent fields and through winter are in opposite stables.

I am worried he will get lonely on his own but i haven't got a lot of grazing so can't have the two kids down and don't want to split them up either - so my plan if Bud starts to look lonely get him a little friend.

So any advice where i would get a very little companion - think mini shetland, as won't need too much grass.
Do you think rescue centre’s maybe able to help as would like to offer a lovely home to something that needs it?? If so where do i find contact details for centre’s....

Thanks

Yes they will likely have something for you. Biggest word of caution though - make SURE that the companion doesn't need a companion! I've known so many people who get a companion horse for their's and then they find out that the companion cannot be left alone so end up getting another companion for the companion....crazy but it happens, LOL!!

Tia, do you remember saying that to me when I put a query about companions on here?
Well, friend in question cannot ride her 'riding' horse at the mo as companion goes mental, so I second everything you said!

LOL!! Well it happens more often than you'd think and as simple as it seems to us sitting here....when you actually go out to look at a companion, logic often falls out the window.

If only you were nearer to Cambridgeshire and wanted a lovely older cob mare who can still do light hacking and lives on fresh air.

She is also the sort that you can leave in the stable or field very happily while you go out with the other one.

Problem is that she is 15.3 so not little in any sense.

there are loads of charities there is one in south wales that rehome around the uk begins with a T can't remember name sorry google it and there were a few on project horse you can some times get companions on loan good luck and i second the thing about getting a companion that can be left alone i am having problems with mine lol

How big is your horse? If you are looking at a mini shetland then don't forget a big horse can do a lot of damage to one, also they may find it hard to 'socialise' being at different heights. A rescue centre may not let you have one on this basis, also shetlands go fast from rescue centres but larger horses tend to linger, also what about in summer when you want your horse to have nice grass? The shetland can't!

Yes, trouble with having a potentially far pony with a horse that isn't is that the podgy pone ends up living on a small patch because he keeps pinching all his big mates' food, or needs less grass 6 months of the year!

T'is easier to get something of a similar size in that respect as you don't have the feeding problem where one needs it and the other doesn't. Fine if you can hang around at feeding times to fend the greedy one off, or indeed are feeding haylage out in the field that you defo don't want the small person to be eating.
