I will next year be having a gap year between a levels and uni, and will be getting a shift job which will leave me time in the week to ride even in the winter, so I'm thinking of getting a horsey on loan.

Basically I was wondering how people go about finding horses on loan as there don't seem to be many advertised on internet and not that many local adverts to choose from. Would people be willing to loan for just a year? And allow me to bring it to my yard? I should be keeping it at home with my current beasty where we will have to hack to an arena, would that kind of thing bother people? any general loaning advice you guys have will be very appreciated!

There's loads advertised online

I found both of mine through word of mouth. Put the word out locally around all the horsey people you know and be clear about what you want.

When I put my own horse out on loan, I used Horsemart. There is a section for horses for loan. You will need to be quick though, I had 10s of calls every day (because I said my boy could move yards) from a few mins after the ad went live. He was gone within 2 weeks, including me checking out the loaners' yard, getting contract drawn up, getting him freezemarked....

I found both of my ponies advertised locally one from a riding school and the other in one of my local tack shops. As mentioned above try websites such as horsemart and newrider.
And in answer to your questions some loaners will let you move to a yard local to you providing they can come and see him when they want kind of thing. One of the owners of the horse I had honestly couldnt care it took her about 3months to draw up a contract I moved him to a new yard in August and she's been to see him once he's had all sorts of problems and she still didn't care-just go careful obviously not all people are the same. And make sure you find out as much about the horse when you go to try him out.
