I lost my horse this week. PTS age 6. I've had so much bad luck owning horses no matter what I do they go lame and retire or are PTS. I just can't see myself going through the stress and heartache of searching/buying/owning again. Especially not another youngster
I'd love to loan an older schoolmaster type. Stepping down the levels SJ or eventing maybe to my happy place of 80/90. Something that needs a quieter or easier life. Where on earth do you find something like that to loan?! Where do all the higher level horses go?!

Generally a good schoolmaster will still command high prices and many are sold rather than loaned.
That being said I think it’s about who you know and putting wanted ads out there. I follow a few local eventers on Facebook and occasionally they post of horses out for loan - one due to pregnancy loaned one of her horses out.

I'm so sorry about your horse. I haven't had great luck with horse either so know exactly how you feel. So I started looking for a loan horse, I found one he is lovely only 13.3 but he has jumped up too 1.10. So they are out there. Facebook is great, but found him on horsemart. Good luck.

just to say eventing22 that I am so very sorry for your loss. I’ve just ‘escaped’ that situation with my horse as he’s been able to be retired
, at 5he age of 8, with a friend ( only owned him for 12 months and wasn’t cheap) He was my 3rd in a row that didn’t work out. It’s totally soul destroying. I keep wondering what I’m doing wrong? When I can summon up the confidence , I’m going to ask around locally and maybe on some groups.i cant face not having a horse but now lacking the confidence to go out and just buy one so looking for LWVTB unless it’s an exceptional recommendation.
Really do hope that you find what you are looking for.x

It's so heartbreaking. I'd only had mine 11 months also not cheap. Fully xrayed, vetted etc. Similar to you I've had a string of terrible luck in quick succession.

I suppose the only “comfort” in all this is knowing we’re not alone in this situation. Sometimes it’s hard to keep things in proportion when on a yard ( 20 on mine) and no one else is going through similar. Particularly after a string of bad luck.
