Finding a pony - highland/ new forest type -cheap!

Does anyone have any idea where to find a highland or NF type, cheap, talking under 1k.

A youngster unbroken or foal even would be fine. Would prefer something at least 1yr old though.

Mainly to be used as a companion and then broken probably when old enough.

Are there Highland sales for youngsters etc?

You can pick NF foals up from the sales really cheap. Last year someone I know bought 4 foals from Melton Market (Leics) for £50 and they go even cheaper in Bournemouth etc.

Go to the breed society website and go directly to the breeder.
You would get a nice NF yearling for about 600, a weaned foal for about 80.

Newfi's can go for really cheap. The Sales in the New Forest state that the minimum bid is 10 Ginieas (sp)

Highlands are pretty pricey now.
You will struggle to find one for less than £1k

..and many breeders of Highlands would also be reluctant to sell a youngster to somebody who has no experience of them, it is a very small world and most Highlands stay within quite a small circle of owners
