As above.... we may end up taking on a friends pony for a couple of years - he is a bonny wee lad... good jumper, good at games... VERY fat.... what level of schooling do i need him to be at before i can find him a decent jockey? and where do we start to look ?

Local PC? Go and hang out at the local branch shows and decide who rides well there and collar their parents and ask. My sister had a few rides that way when she was younger- she was a very small and skinny child (at 11, she still looked slightly small on a 13hh show pony) and loved riding the catch rides.

I have been mulling this over as I will be looking for a rider for one of mine in a year or so

My plan A is to find a local family that has two kids sharing one pony, I am thinking of approaching the local riding schools to see if they have anyone who may be suitable, also PC and riding clubs, of course I would let the child carry on with their RS/PC/RC activities with my pony

Finding such a family means that they would understand the commitment needed and can hack out together

My closest pc is West Mids.... and i would stick hot pins in my eyes before i went anywhere near that vipers nest..... but a good idea maybe for South Staffs or Albrighton

What about Warks Hunt PC? I know a few cracking kids/ponies that do PPC and hunt with them.

Depends on the pony. If its a quiet safe sort, try local ads & riding schools. If it needs a decent jockey, visit local venues & shows & by word of mouth. My 7yr old has been offered minis to ride from being 4 or so, & over last two years has been offered quite a few 11-12hh types at shows, as well as from friends of friends. And ask your farrier too, mines always telling me he has plenty of clients who need a tiny jockey, & he has put us in touch with a couple she's rode.

Just because someone is in one PC branch doesn't necessarily mean they're local to that branch. We're in the 'wrong' branch because it's friendlier, didn't mind our utterly insane ponies and the fact we were at a state school :D
