I'm looking into getting an ex-racer in the coming months with the aim of retraining it for SJ and/or eventing, and just wondered if anyone can recommend any trainers in the South that I should speak to? I think I'd rather get one from a trainer as the general feeling seems to be that they are honest about the horses and just want them to find a nice home - I don't trust myself enough to go to the sales, and having bought ex-racers from non-racing homes before I'm not keen to do that again as I'd really like something that I can find out all the history about, and that has had limited re-training as I like to do it myself.
I'm in Kent so would ideally like to find one in the South!

Hi I can't actually recommend anyone but I've signed up to Jim Boyles ex racehorses on facebook. They seem to really care about the horses they sell and like to follow thier progress. Might be worth a look. I think they arr based in Epsom.

John Best is in Maidstone, I used to work for him and got my horse given to me by him. Hes pretty much always got horses being given away. There's also Linda Jewell, Eddie Creighton (I think) .. Or I know of a lovely gelding who has just been retired and he may be looking for a home (I'd have to ask his owner) though I'm not too sure where he is now!
