I have about £300 and a stable free.

Obv i know £300 isnt a lot for a horse and i know i will be limited in what i can get but you hear of all these horses being given away for peanuts direct from trainers etc

I cant find one!
It just seems a shame that i have the space / time for another but cant find anything.
(im too big to break in a pony as i had thought of that too)

Any ideas?

Im in the same situation. :)

2 fields, a good sized field shelter, 2 stables, and able to afford its monthly upkeep. (would insure for worst case ofc) I had a TBx in the past and loved him so much.

I have worked with rescue and troublesome horse in the past, and have brought on a few youngsters.

I would like the rewards and challenges of working with a horse that needs a second chance at life. But cant seem to find one! Not really to do with the money, but people seem to be looking for thousands for "project horses" which I csant justify as I could pay thousands for one who didnt need the extra work!

I know of two in Midlothian, unfortunately in Peter Mentieths yard so following todays news it may be a couple of weeks before they are accessible again. One a 3yo filly, raced 5 times but slow as a cross channel ferry - they were looking for £1000 for her but a good home is priority, I'm not sure about the story with the other but think it's older and more established, 2k was mentioned for it. York sales always has a few but £300 is even a bit low for some of them.

Thanks i have tried Heros but the wait list is HUGE! (Im on it though!)

I know £300 isnt a lot but in this climate it must buy something of rideable size that needs a home?

Hi, can you PM a bit more about your experience etc. I had a couple of people on here which wanted TB's out of training so I put a lot of effort into finding them horses only to find out they were probably kids and a bit like you or I going off to buy a Bugatti Veryon. I am friends with a lot of trainers and know of about 10 horses looking for homes at the moment. Thanks Also other person who's looking for one - if you do the same, we might find two horses a nice home each!

Have you tried contacting the local racing yards near you? I know of plenty of horses off the track that trainers are practically giving away at the moment. People are unwilling due to hay costs etc and having to turn the horse away for a few months.

my friend suggested this tonight, I think that's a good idea. :)
