Where do I begin? I'm going to approach my riding club and see if I can find something by word of mouth.

I've seen my timetable for uni next year and the expense just cannot be justified for the amount of time I will actually be around and it's not fair on Govley. He's 9 and should be starting Elementary by the end of the year/early next year. He's not the sort of horse I can leave in a field for two years.

Any ideas of where else to look? HorseQuest has a few wanted adverts but they are mainly for school masters. If I can't find the right loan home I will consider selling but i'd rather it didn't come to that.

I'm looking for a loan home for one of mine, and going to put an add up on horsequest. As a friend did this and got quite a few replys.

Next year when i go to uni, ill have to find another loaner for the pony i loan now, i dont think owner would look if i didnt, its going to be so hard im dreading it!! she's a fantastic pony and has much to give but can be very marish at time and is not easy, also she wouldnt be asking for money so would that just encourage time wasters??

Govenor, try your local BYDRS, post ad's in your local tack shops, spread the word of mouth, have a sign up when you go too comps, this is what im planning todo next summer

I had two great loans for my daughter found one on horse quest he other on ad trader. The ad trader advert attracts people living close by.

Put a for loan ad on British Dressage classifieds. That way you are likely to attract a dressage orientated rider. It is not expensive to advertise on there.

My friend advertised her mare for loan in ad trader and had a massive response. The good thing about ad trader is most of the people that enquired were fairly local.

Tell everyone you know and anyone you train with. That's what I did and B got loaned out to a great home whilst I was away for months - no advert needed. Ok, so we are now having to remind him of his manners, but he has come back fit, well and basically just the same as he went away - took him straight out at PN six weeks after getting him back. Word of mouth is the way to go I think, I'd do it again for sure.

My friend is actually looking for a potential Dressage horse - she has 3 of her own, 2 being unrideable and the other working at Novice. We're based down in Gloucestershire, and the woman is fantastic with her horses and looks after them very well. She's looking for something over 16.2hh?

But usualy word of mouth is always good - a lot of riding clubs advertise for free on their website as do pony clubs - so you could always try that.

I found my boy on Equilink but think that was possibly startly a fluke, but that is one place to start. If I was looking to loan one out I usually go for local ads in tack shops, and local riding clubs to start with, and word of mouth - I have one mare who is now on her third loaner/sharer over the last 4 years and have never taken more than a couple of weeks to find someone! She is nothing like as good as yours sounds, she's really just a hacking/little bit of school work type horse. There are quite a few people out there looking for loan horses I think its just making sure you find the right one I guess!
