Can anyone tell me how to find out more about your horse's background?

I'm told that my new horse is very well bred but the names in the passport don't mean anything to me. Where should I look for more information?

have a look at somewhere like all breeds pedigree if you have your horses parents names. You should be able to trace them back quite a way assuming that someone has put them on there to begin with. Also try googling your horses name or the parents names and see if you can find anything on them.

and try googling old owners names if you have any of them, and if u have the guts to ring them, find them on the bt website! i did this and they were so gratefull to hear of her, and saw old pics of her and found out lots more about pony. also facebook/myspace!
good luck

iv just been on this site and looked for princes father, princes family were all succesfull racehorses, shame about him really lol. his father was from the usa which it says in his passport but his family is itallian and american, how interesting

That allbreedpedigree website is cool - for ages I have been trying to find out more about Belle's Grandmummy. The only thing is that that says her mother was born in '72 (which, as Belle is young, would be ridiculous?)

My horse is an American bred ex-racehorse, so it was easy for me. I've traced his ancestry back to St Simon, born in 1811, I could go back much further still with a bit more probing. I was quite amazed to find out Man 'o' War is my boys, maternal grt, grt, grt, grt, grt, grt grandfather.

I found Belle on a page of registered foals for 2002 (on irishsporthorse.com) and her name is in bold, like a few others. Does anybody know what that might mean? There is nothing on the document to tell me - there are 6 foals in bold out of the 25 or so sired by her sire.

dwi - did you look at Durfee Allusion on allbreedpedigree? You can look on there and then google more names for info.
