Near to impossible with Irsih horses I have found. Only thing you can do is if there is any details from his life in Ireland, trya nd contact any names in there, Otherwise, unless you have been given a lead, not much hope
i agree with katb. i know roughly who my boys sire is but because the mare was serviced by the stallion in payment for hay..(dont you just love farmers) and the stallion is now deceased i'm never gonna know for sure. but who cares who the horse is by... a good horse is a good horse and theres nothing better that being placed higher than someone who brags about their horses amazing breeding.
yeh i kinda thought that-helen bell did say they thought they knew but he was never DNA tested...tbh it doesnt bother me at all..i was only enquiring...my other horse is the same-nno breeding whatsoever!

Sorry hate comments like the above, & is probably why the UK is in a mess with its breeding system. It matters because how do you stand a chance of reproducing these good hroses if you have not idea what contributed to them. We had on loan a fantastic pony who has recently won 2 BSJA classes in his late teens. Everyone is guessing he is NFxArab, but how nice would it have been to have known that his sire & dam were capable of producing such a great jumping pony & perhaps even reproducing another. It goes along with trying to breed something that is up to a job, whether it be a happy hacker or a GP horse. It is knowing which horses are staying sound for the job, which have the best temperments for the job, etc, etc. It would be nice someday not to be reading comments like "There is no doubt about it that if we are going to produce or have any kind of breeding programme in the UK then we have got to monitor it and put regulations in place which start with the stallion grading, However, Britain has never been a prolific nation of sports horse breeders and by sport horses, I am not talking specifically show jumpers but also dressage horses and eventers." This comment was made by Tim Stockdale in the Chiltern Rider. Hardly surprising if peoples attitude is "Does it matter".
Breeding unknown!!
