I have a 17 yo wb mare with EMS who I have owned for 17 years. I know her so well and we have been through a lot together. Over the last few years she has had a couple of serious life threatening conditions (lami and acute kidney failure) and I can see when she is in pain, she does this specific thing with her mouth.
Friday morning she was in pain, I phoned the vet and he said it was ok to give her some Danilon which I already had. Initially I thought lami because of the frosty weather so I kept her in but I’m pretty sure it isn’t lami, she is completely sound in trot (she escaped and run off) and there are no pulses. Pretty sure it’s not her kidneys either as she is fairly bright and eating ok. She has had her ovaries removed so unlikely to be ladies problems and she was scoped a while back and no sign of ulcers. The Danilon has helped but not completely.
I will call the vet out tomorrow but I wonder how we would go about finding where the pain is? I’m sure they will take bloods but not sure how much that will show. She did have her teeth done on Weds with a dremmel under sedation, all I can think is that something has happened in her mouth so I’m sure we will look there too.
Has anybody else had anything similar? She has been in for 3 days now and she is no better but probably no worse either. Apart from her mouth/teeth I can’t think of anything else. Other than her showing pain, there is absolutely no other sign of her having a problem. Temperature is normal, eating, drinking, peeing and pooing normal.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
